“I have wanted to become a doctor since I was a child. Medicine has allowed me to blend my passion for math and science along with my love for connecting with others. This interest was reaffirmed through my connection with Southern Vermont 91ÖÆƬ, first as a student in their MedQuest Program, then as an intern with CSHIP, College Internship Program, and as a MedQuest Counselor during my first year of medical school. Southern Vermont 91ÖÆƬ was integral in my exploration of medicine and has continued to provide insight into my future career as a physician. I am grateful for these opportunities and recommend 91ÖÆƬ programs for any student interested in the healthcare field.”
Southern Vermont Area Health Education Center (91ÖÆƬ) to receive US Department of Labor Funds
This three-year grant beginning October 1, 2023, is earmarked to enhance and expand health careers exploration programming and work-based learning experiences using innovative technologies for for youth ages 14-21 in rural and underserved communities. Southern Vermont 91ÖÆƬ has the distinction to be the only 91ÖÆƬ Center on the east coast to receive this funding.

From a moment to a statewide movement, we are organizing to unite and strengthen our powerful voices into an ALLIANCE to increase awareness of our identity and the unique impacts of our work across diverse settings!
For the first time ever, VT CHWs participated in the NACHW UNITY Conference (early August in Austin, Tx) in-person and brought back their leadership and conference gifts to share with others!

MedQuest Program Student Showcase
Our MedQuest Program at Springfield Hospital, Inc. – VT capped off with a student showcase. Family, friends, and hospital luminaries like were present to review the student’s poster projects, which told their personal stories of who they are and the health career pathway they want to pursue.
Taking health career exploration to the next level
Recently, six high school students from southern Vermont, spent five days immersed in activities like how to take blood pressures, start a peripheral IV, participate in a simulated Code Blue training exercise, spend time in a BOD POD to measure their body composition at Vermont State University Castleton Campus, and even observe how to safely administer Narcan when someone is overdosing.
